The Davao City Health Office urged residents Monday to maintain health standards as a precaution against diseases like the Nipah virus, despite no local cases being reported.
Dr. Miguel Ababon, CHO head, said in an interview that while the virus is not present in the country, preventive measures are crucial.
“Let us [still] observe minimum public standard. If you’re sick, don’t go out – if you need to go out – wear well-fitted mask; be sure your hands are always clean,” Ababon said.
He emphasized the Nipah virus spreads mainly through direct contact with infected animals or people, or through contaminated food, rather than through the air like influenza.
Ababon explained initial symptoms resemble flu or fever, potentially leading to pneumonia or severe brain inflammation. (PNA)
