With thousands of athletes and visitors from across the globe arriving for the IRONMAN 70.3 Davao on March 20–22, 2026, the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) has rolled out a comprehensive traffic plan to ensure safety and order throughout the international sporting event.
Dionisio Abude, Head of CTTMO, said during the ISpeak Media Conference on Thursday that these measures are not only about managing traffic but also to ensure that the residents are fully informed ahead of the closures.
“Gihimo namo ni tanan para safe, orderly ug efficient ang daloy sa traffic during the conduct of Ironman. While naga conduct ta, dapat minimize ang disturbance sa atung general public (We did all of this to ensure a safe, orderly, and efficient flow of traffic during the Ironman. While we are conducting it, we should also minimize the disturbance),” he said.
The full road closure will start on March 20, Friday, for the Gwapa Dabawenya Run and will affect the Bago Aplaya Road to Talomo Road of the Coastal road starting at 8 a.m. By 2 p.m., the closure will extend to the Tulip Rotunda.
On March 21, Saturday, the IRONKIDS competition will shut down the road from Bago Aplaya to Talomo of the Coastal road beginning at 3 a.m. until midnight. Later that evening, from 9 p.m. to midnight, an additional full closure will be enforced on the Talomo Road to the Sta. Ana Bridge.
On March 22, Sunday, a full road closure from 12 midnight to 1 p.m. will take effect on Bago Aplaya to the Sta. Ana Bridge of the Coastal Road for the IRONMAN 70.3. At 1 p.m., another full closure will cover Bago Aplaya to Talomo Road.
The CTTMO added that there will be partial closures for Tulip and Ecoland Drive, and Quimpo Boulevard from 3 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the northbound lane of the Davao-Cotabato Road from Bago Aplaya to St. Peter’s College of Toril from 3 a.m. to 5 p.m.
He added that they reproduced 6,000 flyers in both English and Bisaya to be distributed and are expanding their information drive with advisories along the affected roads to keep motorists and commuters informed.
Abude also urge Dabawenyos to plan ahead, follow advisories, and support the event, reinforcing Davao’s reputation as a welcoming and disciplined city.
“Reminders lang kabalo man ta nga naay umaabot nga activity, atung suportahan nga hapsay kay ang ironman naay visitors sa laing country so atoang ipakita ang atoang pagka Dabawenyo disiplinado (I would like to remind everyone that we have an upcoming activity, let’s support this event because the Ironman has visitors from other countries, so let’s show our Dabawenyo, disiplinado spirit),” he added.
