The Davao City Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) Families’ Welfare and Crisis Center is closely monitoring the rapidly evolving conflict in the Middle East, as tensions escalated following coordinated strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran.
The fighting has spread because Iran has struck back, and there has been clashes in different parts of the region.
Davao City Information Officer Harvey James Lanticse said the center stands ready to assist families of Dabawenyo OFWs who may be affected by the crisis.
“We are keeping a close watch on the unfolding events overseas and are ready to support the left‑behind families in any way necessary,” Lanticse said.
Based on reports, The recent events started on February 28, 2026, when U.S. and Israeli forces carried out airstrikes on important sites in Iran, including military bases, in one of the biggest escalations in years.
On Sunday, Iran confirmed the dead of its Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei due to the airstrikes.
Iran hit back with missiles and drones aimed at Israel and U.S. bases in nearby Gulf countries, raising concerns about the conflict spreading further.
Since thousands of Filipinos work in the Middle East including in Israel, the UAE, Kuwait, and other Gulf countries the Philippine government has been giving safety advice, asking OFWs to listen to local authorities and keep updated through official sources.
The city government of Davao urges OFW families to reach out to the crisis center for guidance, counseling or emergency support.
