The regional office of the Department of Education (DepEd 11) clarified that public school classes will continue on a five-day schedule despite the implementation of a four-day on-site work arrangement for certain personnel under new energy conservation protocols.
In a social media post, DepEd 11 spokesperson Jenielito “Dodong” Atillo addressed public inquiries following the release of DepEd Memorandum No. 18, s. 2026.
“Para sa mga nangutana ug wala nangutana: Public school operation is not affected by the Four (4) Day Work Week directive. Still, classes are for 5 days. In the light of DepEd Memorandum No. 18, s. 2026, there is NO Work from-Home for teachers,” Atillo said.
Under the memorandum on the implementation of energy conservation protocols and flexible work arrangements, the DepEd Regional Office 11 has adopted a modified work schedule starting March 9, 2026, until further notice.
Personnel at the regional office will report on-site from Monday to Thursday, while Fridays are designated as the common work-from-home (WFH) day. The arrangement applies to non-teaching and related-teaching personnel, including Contract of Service (COS) and Job Order (JO) employees, as part of efforts to reduce energy consumption in government offices in line with Memorandum Circular 114 issued by the Office of the President.
DepEd emphasized that the policy does not cover teaching personnel, who will continue to follow their regular class schedules and school arrangements to ensure the uninterrupted conduct of classes and the completion of end-of-school-year activities.
DepEd officials also assured parents and students that regular classroom instruction in public schools across the region will proceed as scheduled despite the new office work setup.
Under the DepEd policy on the implementation of energy conservation protocols and work arrangements, the department will implement a four-day on-site work arrangement from Monday to Thursday, while Friday will be designated as the common work-from-home day for covered personnel.
The WFH arrangement applies to non-teaching and related-teaching personnel, including COS and JO employees.
Meanwhile, teaching personnel will continue following their existing class schedules and school arrangements to ensure uninterrupted classes and school operations.
