The Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO) is intensifying preparations for the upcoming Parada Dabawenyo on March 28, the culminating event of the 89th Araw ng Dabaw, with expectations of large crowds and the possible attendance of Vice President Sara Duterte.
PSSO head Angel Sumagaysay said on Wednesday a coordination meeting will be held next week to finalize security measures for the event, noting that preparations remain generally aligned with established safety protocols.
“There will be a safety and security coordination meeting next week and part of it is the preparation on how to secure the area pero we are expecting na daghan na mu-attend ana and medyo general lang ang atoang preparation for the security. But we are ready kung kinsa man na ang muabot during the Parada. Kana tanan in coordination, kung muabot man gyud siya then expect nga naay coordination with VP Sara’s security. General lang ang paghatag sa amo ug guidelines nga mag prepare for the Parada Dabawenyo,” Sumagaysay said during the Davao Peace and Security Press Corps media briefing at The Royal Mandaya Hotel.
He assured the public that authorities are prepared to manage the influx of attendees and will coordinate closely with the vice president’s security team should she confirm her attendance.
Meanwhile, Sumagaysay urged Dabawenyos to remain vigilant and continue practicing the city’s “culture of security” as Davao City marks its fourth year of being insurgency-free on March 24.
For decades, several upland communities faced challenges brought about by armed conflict, limiting access to basic services and development opportunities. However, through strengthened governance, inclusive development, and sustained peacebuilding efforts, the city achieved a historic milestone when it was declared insurgency-free on March 24, 2022.
“Padayon gihapon ta sa pag-implement sa atoang culture of security sa siyudad aron mahimong magmalungtaron ang atoang status as insurgency-free ug masiguro ang safety and security sa tanang Dabawenyo labi na ‘tong mga naa sa atoang GIDAs,” Sumagaysay added.
