The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has intensified its security preparations ahead of the highly anticipated Ironman 70.3 Davao set on March 22, 2026, convening a staff conference to ensure operational readiness and public safety.
DCPO acting City Director Col. Mannan Muarip gathered on Monday at the 2nd Floor, Kapanalig Hall, DCPO Building along San Pedro Street, Davao City key commanders and unit heads to finalize security strategies and coordination efforts for the international sporting event.
Muarip emphasized the importance of a comprehensive security plan covering all critical areas, including race routes, staging grounds, and billeting locations.
“We must ensure a well-organized and secure environment for athletes, organizers, and spectators. Our deployment should be strategic, with strong visibility and coordination across all areas,” Muarip said.
He directed personnel to strengthen monitoring in designated parking and staging areas, intensify operations at Physical Screening Areas (PSA), and maintain close coordination with event organizers to ensure seamless communication throughout the event.
Muarip also highlighted the need to increase police presence across various Areas of Responsibility (AOR), with additional support from the Police Regional Office 11 (PRO 11) to reinforce security operations.
“We will intensify police visibility and patrol operations to guarantee the safety of participants, support teams, and the general public,” he added.
In addition, the DCPO chief ordered the monitoring of diesel prices, noting that global developments, including tensions involving the United States and Iran, may affect fuel costs and police mobility.
“We need to be proactive, even in logistics. Possible fuel price fluctuations can impact our operations, so monitoring is necessary to ensure uninterrupted deployment,” Muarip said.
The Ironman 70.3 Davao is one of the highlight events of the 89th Araw ng Dabaw celebration, drawing thousands of athletes and spectators from across the country and around the world. The endurance race covers a challenging 70.3-mile triathlon course and is considered one of the premier sporting events in the region.
With the influx of visitors expected, the DCPO underscored its commitment to maintaining peace and order while showcasing Davao City as a safe and competitive venue for international events.
“Our goal is to ensure that Ironman 70.3 and the Araw ng Dabaw celebrations are conducted safely, peacefully, and successfully for everyone,” Muarip said.
