The 21st Davao City Council approved on Thursday, March 19, 2026, separate ordinances for temporary road closures for the Celebrate Jesus event on March 27 to 28, 2026 and Holy Week events from March 29 to April 5.
The council, upon the request of Cathedral of Praise, approved under suspended rules the Ordinance for the temporary full closure to vehicular traffic along Roxas Avenue Rotunda from Post office to Marco Polo, on March 27, 2026 from 9 a.m.- 9 p.m. and on March 28, 2026 from noon to 9:00 p.m. for the event “Celebrate Jesus”.
Also under suspended rules, the body approved the Ordinance for the temporary road closure to vehicular traffic for the Holy Week Celebration.
The road closure for the Holy Week Celebration will start on the midnight of March 29, 2026 to 11:59 p.m. of April 5, 2026 (Palm Sunday- Easter Sunday) at San Pedro St. (Fronting the Cathedral Only) for the Blessing of Palms; installation and restoration of steel structures for the Sugatan; for the Blessing of Fire; and the re-enactment of the Sugat/Encuentro/Salubong.
On April 3, 2026 (Good Friday), from 3 a.m. to 9 p.m., another temporary road closure will be implemented from Quimpo Boulevard (Felcris Centrale), Rizal Extension, C. De Jesus St. (UIC), Bonifacio St., CM Recto Ave., Roxas Extension (Along Red Cross) to Ponciano St., Bonfacio St., Legaspi St., Magallanes St., until the Bonifacio Rotunda.
From 3 pm- 9 pm of the same day April 3, temporary road closure will be implemented from the San Pedro Cathedral passing through C.M. Recto Avenue., Roxas Extension (Along Red Cross), Ponciano St., Bonifacio St., Legaspi St., Magallanes St., and Bonifacio Rotunda.
The temporary road closure for the observance of the Holy Week was requested by Msgr, Paul A. Cuison, Parish Rector of the San Pedro Cathedral in order to ensure the safety, solemnity, and orderly conduct of religious activities from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday.
The ordinances are to take effect upon approval and were proposed by Committee on Transportation and Communications Chairperson Councilor Jose Marie Bernardo R. Baluran. CIO
