One hundred ten children from Davao City have been officially declared free from the grip of child labor following a series of rigorous assessments conducted by the Department of Labor and Employment 11 (DOLE 11).
The Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program (CLPEP) team of DOLE 11 verified this progress through a recent monitoring sweep across Barangay 31-D, Barangay 22-C, New Carmen, Tagluno, and Leon Garcia.
According to the agency, the initiative focused on evaluating how effectively these formerly exploited minors have reintegrated into a life free from labor.
“For these 110 individuals, the transition marks the end of hazardous daily toil and the beginning of a life centered on education. Many have already re-enrolled in formal schooling, while others are continuing their studies without the physical and psychological burden of dangerous work,” DOLE 11 stated.
The agency attributed the successful withdrawal of these children from the labor force to a multi-faceted intervention strategy.
“By combining direct educational assistance for the youth with livelihood grants for their parents, DOLE 11 sought to address the economic desperation that often forces families to rely on child labor,” it said.
DOLE 11 also underscored its commitment to ongoing oversight, aiming to ensure these positive changes are lasting. The agency noted its intention to secure a future where children are permanently removed from the workforce, allowing them to focus entirely on their education and personal growth.
