The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) has warned the public about the dangers of the high heat index during the summer.

CDRRMO Head Alfredo Baloran, in a recent Madayaw interview, said that based on observed trends, the heat peaks from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“We’d like to remind the general public to refrain from overstaying under the direct heat of the sun, pero if dili nato malikayan kinahanglan gyud nato og hydration, mangita og kalandungan para ma protect under the heat of the sun (We’d like to remind the general public to refrain from staying too long under direct sunlight, but if it cannot be avoided, it is important to stay hydrated and seek shade to protect yourself from the heat of the sun),” he said.

Baloran said that the heat may cause cramps, sunburn, and heat stroke.

The City Health Office said to prevent heat stroke, the public is advised to hydrate; avoid drinking coffee, tea, soft drinks, and alcohol; wear hats or long sleeves and light, comfortable clothes when going out; and conduct usual activities before or after peak hours.

Heat stroke symptoms include redness of the skin, headache, fatigue, palpitations, dizziness, high fever, fainting or loss of consciousness, weakness, and convulsions. CIO.
