DTI 11 launches regional program to boost consumer protection amid oil price concerns

The Department of Trade and Industry 11 (DTI 11) has formally activated a regional consumer network aimed at strengthening consumer protection and promoting responsible business practices across the Davao Region.

Dubbed the Davao Alliance for Vigilance, Advocacy, and Organized Network towards Consumer Trust (DAVAO ConNeCT), the initiative was launched on March 31, 2026 in Davao City.

DTI 11 Regional Director Romeo Castañaga described DAVAO ConNeCT as both an “alliance” and a “network” that will serve as a collaborative platform for information sharing, capacity building, and joint initiatives.

“This will be a consultative and information-sharing mechanism among government agencies, consumer organizations, and stakeholders committed to fostering a safe, transparent, and empowered consumer environment in Region 11,” he said.

Castañaga said the inaugural meeting came at a critical time, as global geopolitical tensions in the Middle East continue to impact oil supply and prices, affecting consumers nationwide.

In response, members were provided with updates on the price and supply situation of key commodities, including fuel, basic necessities, and agricultural products.

Resource speakers included representatives from the Department of Energy-Davao (DOE-Davao), Department of Agriculture 11 (DA 11), and DTI 11, who presented current data and outlooks to guide stakeholders in addressing market challenges.

The network brings together a wide range of government agencies, including the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Bureau of Customs, Department of Health, Department of Education, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Tourism, Food and Drug Administration, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, National Bureau of Investigation, Philippine National Police, and the Securities and Exchange Commission, among others.

Consumer groups such as Konsumo Digos and the ComVal Consumer Organization, Inc. also participated, reinforcing the network’s inclusive approach.

The participants also signed a pledge of commitment, signaling their full support and cooperation in advancing consumer welfare and building trust in the regional marketplace.
