Authorities in Davao City intercepted an estimated P2.5 million worth of suspected smuggled cigarettes during a coordinated operation in Barangay Ma-a on Monday.
The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) reported that operatives from Ma-a Police Station, the City Special Operations Group (CSOG), City Intelligence Unit (CIU), and the Regional Intelligence Division (RID) of Police Regional Office 11 (PRO 11) conducted the operation in Purok 27 Camansi, Riverside that led to the seizure of 50 boxes of suspected smuggled cigarettes.
The DCPO said that the operation underscored the intensified efforts to curb illicit trade in the city.
Authorities are currently conducting further investigation to identify those responsible for the illegal goods and to determine possible links to larger smuggling operations.
DCPO City Director Col. Peter Bauzon Madria lauded the personnel involved, emphasizing the importance of unified action against illegal activities.
“This successful interception reflects the dedication, vigilance, and professionalism of our personnel and partner units,” Madria said.
Madria emphasized that through strong inter-agency collaboration, DCPO is sending a clear message that smuggling and other unlawful activities have no place in Davao City.
Madria also highlighted the broader implications of the operation, noting that smuggled cigarettes not only evade taxes but also undermine legitimate businesses and pose regulatory concerns.
“We remain committed to intensifying our intelligence-driven operations and strengthening partnerships to dismantle networks engaged in smuggling. The safety and well-being of our community will always be our top priority,” he added.
The DCPO reiterated its call for continued public cooperation, stressing that community support plays a crucial role in sustaining peace and order.
The DCPO assured the public that operations against illicit trade will continue as part of its mandate to enforce the law and protect the city.
