The City Government of Davao on Tuesday dispatched 4,000 boxes of relief goods and 3,000 one-liter bottles of drinking water to areas affected by last week’s magnitude 7.8 earthquake, including General Santos City, Sarangani, and Jose Abad Santos in Davao Occidental.
A 42-member team composed of personnel from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), City Engineer’s Office (CEO), City Mayor’s Office (CMO), the Security Cluster, and other frontline offices led the relief mission.
The assistance forms part of Davao City’s continuing support for relief and recovery efforts in communities severely affected by the earthquake, which displaced thousands of families across Mindanao.
City officials said the relief operation underscores Davao City’s commitment to assisting neighboring localities as they recover from the disaster.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), the areas hardest hit by the June 8 magnitude 7.8 earthquake included Sarangani, South Cotabato, Davao Occidental, and General Santos City. These areas experienced extensive infrastructure damage, casualties, and population displacement due to the strong tremor, as well as landslides and localized tsunami waves.
Meanwhile, the City Government of Davao, in coordination with the Office of Civil Defense Region XI (OCD XI), facilitated the delivery of drinking water to affected communities last week.
The CDRRMO also assisted in the medical evacuation of patients from Sarangani to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) in Davao City to ensure they received proper treatment.
