Three riders nabbed for illegal racing, overspeeding on Davao Coastal Road

Personnel from the Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO) and the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) apprehended three motorcycle riders after they were allegedly caught racing and overspeeding along the Davao City Bypass Coastal Road on Monday.

Authorities said the suspects may face charges not only for overspeeding but also for reckless driving due to the dangers posed by their actions on a major thoroughfare.

The arrest comes amid growing concerns over groups of motorcycle riders reportedly engaging in illegal racing and stunt activities along the Davao Bypass Coastal Road, particularly during late-night and early-morning hours.

Recently, Councilor Luna Acosta, chairperson of the Committee on Peace and Public Safety, said the City Council would coordinate with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) to determine the identities and circumstances of riders linked to complaints received by authorities.

According to Acosta, reports indicate that some members of these groups may be minors, prompting the need for coordination with social welfare authorities.

She added that the council has also been working closely with Task Force Davao and the CTTMO, both of which maintain outposts in the area, to monitor the situation and strengthen enforcement efforts.

Acosta reminded riders not to risk their lives for the sake of social media content and stressed that public safety should remain the priority.
