Liga ng mga Barangay President January N. Duterte has rolled out 12 new service vehicles to expand the reach of the “Libreng Sakay para sa Edukasyon” program, providing more indigent students with free and reliable transportation to schools across Davao City.
The additional vehicles will be deployed across the city’s three districts, bringing the program’s total fleet to 26.
Duterte said the expansion aims to help more students, particularly those living in far-flung communities, reach their schools safely without the burden of daily transportation costs.
She added that, for many learners who travel long distances every day, the initiative lessens the need for lengthy walks and removes one of the financial barriers that often prevent regular school attendance.
“Education should be accessible to all. Dili dapat mahimong babag ang kakulang sa pamasahe para makaskwela ang atong mga kabataan,” Duterte said.
She said the continued expansion of the program reflects the Liga ng mga Barangay’s commitment to making education more accessible by ensuring that transportation challenges do not keep students out of the classroom.
The “Libreng Sakay para sa Edukasyon” initiative has gained support from communities for directly addressing one of the most pressing concerns of underprivileged families: the rising cost of daily transportation.
Student beneficiaries welcomed the additional vehicles, saying the program has eased both their financial burden and daily commute.
“Dako kaayo ni’g tabang sa amo. Makasulod nami sa eskwelahan nga walay kabalaka,” one student shared.
Parents have also expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that the free transport service allows them to redirect limited household resources to other educational and family needs while giving them peace of mind that their children can travel to and from school safely.
Duterte said that, with the latest deployment of 12 vehicles, the “Libreng Sakay para sa Edukasyon” program is expected to benefit more students across Davao City, reinforcing efforts to promote inclusive education and ensure that no child is deprived of learning opportunities because of transportation costs.
