The Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) has announced the death of Philippine eagle Sawaga-Dalwangan, the raptor rescued in Bukidnon earlier this month after being found surrounded by a troop of monkeys.
In a statement released Saturday, PEF said the young adult female died while undergoing rehabilitation at the Philippine Eagle Center.
Sawaga-Dalwangan was rescued on July 3 by local farmer Marven Linoy in Barangay Dalwangan, Malaybalay City, after being discovered amid a troop of more than 30 monkeys.
PEF said an initial necropsy has been completed, while histopathological examinations are still underway to determine the eagle’s cause of death. A consolidated report will be released once all test results are finalized.
The foundation expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the rescue and care of the eagle, saying the lessons learned from Sawaga-Dalwangan’s case will help improve conservation and rehabilitation efforts for other Philippine eagles.
“We share the grief of everyone who followed her journey and hoped for her recovery. Sawaga-Dalwangan’s rescue was not in vain,” PEF said.
