The development of the Central Mindanao Airport (CMA) is moving forward as government agencies continue to advance critical infrastructure projects aimed at bringing the facility closer to full commercial operations.
Project updates were discussed during the Central Mindanao Airport Stakeholders Meeting held on August 6 at the Governor’s Cottage in Amas, Kidapawan City.
The meeting, led by the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO), brought together representatives from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Transportation (DOTr), Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), National Irrigation Administration (NIA), the local government of M’lang, and the Provincial Legal Office (PLO).
According to the project status report, several support facilities have already been completed, including the administration building, water system building, and powerhouse building.
Construction continues on other key infrastructure, including the fire station building, control tower, and a bridge in Barangay New Rizal, M’lang, which are essential to the airport’s operational readiness.
DPWH 12 Regional Director Cayamombao Dia reaffirmed the agency’s support for the provincial government’s efforts to accelerate the airport’s completion and achieve full operational status under the leadership of Governor Emmylou “Lala” Taliño-Mendoza.
Meanwhile, CAAP updated stakeholders on the ongoing rehabilitation of the passenger terminal building and the extension of the runway, two major components expected to enhance the airport’s capacity to accommodate commercial flights.
Once operational, the Central Mindanao Airport is expected to improve regional connectivity, facilitate the movement of goods and passengers, and strengthen trade, tourism, and investment opportunities across Central Mindanao.
The project is also seen as a strategic infrastructure investment that will support long-term economic growth and expand access to markets in the region.
