Former Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel Bonoan was released from police custody at around 10:35 a.m. Friday, a day after the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division granted his motion for release.
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-National Capital Region (CIDG-NCR) verified the anti-graft court’s release order before Bonoan underwent a medical assessment by the PNP Health Service and was turned over to his family.
Bonoan’s release followed the court’s decision to remove him as a co-accused in the plunder and graft cases involving Senator Jinggoy Estrada and other officials over alleged irregularities in flood control projects.
He remains facing a separate graft case before the Sandiganbayan Second Division, where he had posted P90,000 bail. He was scheduled to attend his arraignment in the case via Zoom at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
