I was thrilled to get an invitation from Swiss Deli and Restaurant along Mamay Road in Davao City as part of a small group of media practitioners to its recent wine-tasting event.
Swiss Deli uncorked eight selections of Chilean wine brand Terra Pura (Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc), Chile red wine, Cabernet Sauvignon from Central Valley, and wines from Central Valley, Colchagua Valley, Curico Valley, Itata Valley, and Valle de Itata.
We noted these wines’ tasting notes that include aromas of red fruits, vanilla, and black pepper; some hits of white pepper, well structured with a gentle acidity; and the palate is smooth and silky with good structure and a pleasing finish.
We were supposed to do the usual procedure of wine tasting, which is to see, swirl, sniff, sip, and savor, but what we did was see, sip, then gulp like thirsty camels.
We paired our wines with Swiss Deli’s best dishes. We couldn’t help ourselves but munch and munch.
What I love about wine-tasting affairs is the flow of conversation over wines. It was smooth and enjoyable with discussion on what’s their favorite among the selection or their past wine-tasting experiences.
The Swiss Deli and Restaurant carries a wide array of imported wines from Australia, France, South Africa, Chile, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, and the USA.
Dubbed a gem of Davao City, Swiss Deli has a bakery, a wine section, and an extensive menu, which makes it among Davao City’s favorite dining destinations for very comforting food.
After all the sniffing and sipping, the only words I was able to utter were — so many wines, so little time.
