The Board of Investments (BOI) has reported investment leads in Davao Region for projects worth some P11.57 billion.
BOI regional chief Gil Dureza said that investment leads are preliminary activities of companies before actually putting their establishment in place.
He said majority of the investment leads are usually realized.
The P11.57 billion investments are mostly scheduled for implementation this year and are expected to generate thousands of jobs for Dabawenyos, Dureza said.
He said the contemplated business ventures will be located in the provinces of Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley and the city of Davao.
Dureza however told business editors and reporters attending the MediSpa business forum that Davao Region failed to create 12,000 jobs due to the decision of certain cavendish banana companies to withhold their expansion plans because of uncertainty created by the advocacy of militant groups to ban aerial spraying in banana plantations.
Among the companies planning to put up multi-billion peso expansion projects are pineapple production in 2,000 hectares in Bukidnon by the Davao City-based Davco worth P2 billion; Sumifru expansion in 2,000 hectares worth P2 billion; Bongreen Bio Energy Project, P1 billion; CJ Corporation, P2 billion; Davao Doctors Hospital project, P1 billion in the next three years; Filinvest housing project, P1 billion; Kenram palm oil processing project, P400 million; Collier packaging plant, P400 million; Santos Land, P250 million; F.
