THE OBSERVANCE of All Saints Day here yesterday (Thursday) was peaceful, orderly and with no untoward incident happening, except for some violations of the anti-smoking ordinance.
The same situation was observed in other cities and provinces in Davao Region.
This was the assessment of Davao City Police Office (DCPO) chief Sr. Supt. Ronald dela Rosa who personally made the rounds of big cemeteries here.
Dela Rosa said visitors of cemeteries were cooperative, especially in leaving at police assistance centers prohibited items like bladed weapons, cigarettes and playing cards.
“So far, so good. It is very peaceful and orderly,” he told reporters.
On the other side of the ledger, so to speak, 27 persons were arrested violating the anti-smoking ordinance in various cemeteries, 15 of them in Tibungco.
Dela Rosa said the re-routing scheme implemented by the Traffic Management Center was successful in decongesting traffic in public cemeteries like the Catholic Cemetery, Wireless, San Pedro Memorial Park, Forest Lake, Davao Memorial Park, Buhangin Memorial Park and public cemeteries in Ulas, Talomo, Toril, Calinan, Mintal, Maa, Panacan, Tibungco and Bunawan.
A long weekend is foreseen since All Saints Day and All Souls Day fall on Thursday and Friday. [ASA]
