Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte cannot hide her excitement as Mindanao’s premier city finally gets to host the 2019 Palarong Pambansa which unfurls ‪on Sunday, April 28, at the spanking new Davao City-University of the Philippines-Mindanao Sports Complex in Bago Oshiro, Tugbok District.

“The city is more than thrilled to welcome more than 18,000 delegates of the Palarong Pambansa, as it promotes physical education among young Filipinos and inculcates in them the values of excellence, discipline, teamwork, fair play, and integrity,” Mayor Sara said in her message.

“Our passion for sports has inspired us to run the extra mile in preparations to give all of you an indelible, incredible experience in this annual multi-sport event,” she added.

Sara said, “It’s all systems go for Davao City’s hosting for the Palarong Pambansa 2019.”

Meanwhile, the City Health Office conducted inspections of the billeting quarters of the athletes and coaches, particularly the toilets and shower rooms.

“The Environmental Sanitation and Tropical Divisions have already checked the billeting quarters especially its cleanliness and have already cleared possible breeding sites of mosquitoes,” said Dr. Josephine Villafuerte, the officer-in-charge of the CHO.

Villafuerte said CHO has also established the health desks in the billeting areas and at the playing venues to attend to the needs of athletes.

“We will have a medical team in the gaming area which will comprise of representatives from various medical agencies like the Southern Philippines Medical Center Team and the Central 911,” she added.

For the security sector, the Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) has ensured the readiness of all its units, as well as force multipliers.

“We have an average of 3,366 security personnel detailed in the billeting quarters and gaming areas from the Task Force Davao, Philippine National Police, The 10O3rd Brigade, the 3rd Infantry Battalion, and Civil Security Unit,” said Angel Sumagaysay, the assistant Officer-in-Charge of PSSCC.

After 69 years, the city will host the Palarong Pambansa for the first time. The annual sports conclave will be participated in by different regions all over the country. CIO
