Davao Oriental governor Nelson L. Dayanghirang on Thursday said he is saddened by news of the arrest of his son Jossone Michael Dayanghirang in a buy-bust operation in Davao City the day before but heaved a sigh of relief after knowing that he is safe and alive.
In a press statement posted on the Province of Davao Oriental Facebook page, Governor Dayanghirang said the 32-year old alias Johnson, who was born out of wedlock, must take responsibility for his actions as he is already of age.
“We must always take responsibility for our actions,” the governor said.
“Isip ginikanan, gikasubo nako ang maong panghitabo. Bisan pa niini, dako ang akong pasalamat nga siya nadakpang buhi aron siya manubag sa iyang binuhatan ug aron aduna pay higayon nga siya magbag-o (As a parent, I am saddened by the turn of events. However, I am still grateful that he was arrested alive so that he can answer for his actions and have a chance to reform),” Dayanghirang said in the statement.
He said Jossone, whom he had not seen in six years, did not grow up under his watch but with his mother. He said he learned of the younger Dayanghirang’s involvement in illegal drugs and sent the latter twice to a drug rehabilitation facility.
After undergoing rehabilitation twice, the governor said he took Jossone to Manila during his term as first district Representative of Davao Oriental.
“Kini aron masiguro nako nga mahilayo siya sa mga dili maayong impluwensya ug sya mabag-o gayud (This is to ensure that he will be away from bad influences and for him to reform),” he said. “Apan luyo sa akong paningkamot, nagpadayon siya sa iyang bisyo nga dili maayo–hinungdan na nagkabuwag mi (Despite my earnest efforts, he still went on with his bad vices and that is why we parted ways).”
Dayanghirang said his son has to face the consequences of his actions and answer the charges against him.
He congratulated the law enforcers “for a job well done and for properly imposing the law.”
