Camella NorthPoint: A part of Davao’s history

Vista Land Corporation is coming up with a big project to become another highlight in Davao City—the Camella NorthPoint. It will preserve the so-called “White Mansion” atop the hill overlooking the Buhangin flyover (crossing J.P. Laurel St. and Buhangin road) which was believed to be once the house of an abaca trader in the 1900s and had been turned into a Japanese garrison during the occupation period.
Camella NorthPoint is unfolding the transformation of the area from being once a ‘mystery’ mansion to a modern community, Marlon Escalicas, general manager, said. “By being part of this community, one can feel the honor of being part of history as well,” he said.
This landmark project will become one of the destinations in Davao, he said. It does not only preserve the white mansion, but also the centuries-old trees that surround it. Adding to the greenness of this place, some 1,000 pine-trees were planted to bring the scent of pine to the residents allowing them to start their day fresh.
The Caribbean pine trees worth two million pesos were imported from New Zealand. Escalicas said they are planning to spend an additional P2M for more pines. “They are fast growing trees which will be fully grown in three years time. Soon, the trees will bring a fresh atmosphere which affords residents a healthy lifestyle,” he said.
There will also be indoor and outdoor gardens to support their healthy lifestyle. A salinated pool, the first and only one in Davao, is designed for wellness, while a fitness gym and meditation pond will also be available.
Keeping its modern design with a touch of British colonial architecture, the Camella NorthPoint is anchored on Davao’s history, according to Escalicas. He added that Davao is growing and that the development of this project will help add prestige to the city.
While the public may avail of the restaurant, wine bar, coffee shop, picnic area, specialty shops, boutique hotel and other structures to be developed outside the gate, the residents retain their privacy and exclusivity inside. Aside from the CCTV system provided at the gate to ensure 24/7 security, the residents will have their own swipe cards to open the gate themselves.
Saying that one’s address already defines his or her lifestyle, Escalicas believes that the Camella NorthPoint will be one-of-a-kind project which will not only bring prestige and world class living to the city, but entice visitors and investors who may eventually decide to put up their businesses and live here.  [Lorie Ann A.
