Not only does ComputerSense provide affordable computers and other electronic devices for average earners in Davao city, it also offers courses at a cheaper cost through its ComputerSense College of Communication and Technology, Incorporated. To ride on the growing culinary industry, the school established the InterGlobal College of Arts and Science (ICAS) on April 12. It offers two-year program of Tourism, Hotel and Restaurant Technology (THRT) and “Cooking for Livelihood.”
Cooking for Livelihood is a short course specially designed to suit the needs of the students, housewives, and individuals who want to have a strong foundation in cooking and start their own food businesses immediately.
The school president, Robert Lu Carabuena, said the culinary course is a potential dollar earner compared to nursing and with less investment and shorter time. “We can guarantee that we offer less or cheaper courses,” he said durig the Club 888 press forum at Marco Polo Hotel last April 21.
Noli Remulta, head of THRT, said enrolment in the cooking course costs only PhP 1,500, inclusive of ingredients, certificate of completion, apron and handouts. This twice a week cooking sessions will teach students about basic cooking and food handling, food costing, cooking techniques with eight recipes to start on. The first session will tackle Asian cuisines while the students may choose Italian or any other cuisine for the second session. .
Remulta said majority of their graduates are currently working in local food chains and hotels, particularly in Digos City and Tagum City. ComputerSense had 250 graduates in HRM, programming and technician in 2009, and 200 in 2010. Students’ on-job-trainings were mostly at the Pearl Farm.
“We also have a partnership with shipping companies for future employment of our graduates,” Carabuena added.
