Gabriel Taborin: Ten years of stellar education

When in Lasang, the northernmost barangay in Davao City right before reaching Panabo City, one cannot miss the billboard announcing the existence of Gabriel Taborin College of Davao (GTCD).
Established in 2001, not much is heard about the school GTCD, named after the French Founder of the Brothers of the Holy Family, Gabriel Taborin.  But under its belt is a decade of producing hundreds of qualified and competent graduates now contributing to the local and global work force.
In ten years time, it has become a tertiary institution offering BS in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Bachelor of Elementary and Secondary Education, and Bachelor of Information Technology on top of its previous courses of two-year Computer Technology, Electronics Technology, Healthcare Services with Pharmacy Services and Hotel and Restaurant Management.
The college is also offering two-year Computer Animation course, as one of the few schools qualified to offer the specialized information technology course.
A decade of feats
GTCD has amassed a number of accolades to its name. Among which are the various medals and recognitions from the Mindanao Culinary Festival and the distinction of being consecutive champion in Durian Festival culinary arts competition in Tagum City.
Meanwhile, its state-of-the art computer animation room is one of Mindanao’s top-notch facility.
A work of generosity and partnership
Despite limited financial resources, the school managed by the Brothers of the Holy Family (founded in France in 1835) , takes the challenge of providing quality education, promoting solidarity and fraternal relationships by putting together its resources and some donations from generous sponsors like Manos Unidas, Chei del Spet, American Women’s Club of the Philippines and Assisi Foundation to meet ends of the school.
With this partnership the school is able to provide high-end facilities, modern laboratories, state-of-the-art gymnasium, well-maintained dormitory for girls and highly qualified instructors.
Today, the school continues to fulfill its vision of providing affordable college education as a tool to fight poverty that afflicts the majority of families in the area.
Through its Scholarship Program that is expanding every year, the school is set to reach a bigger number of poor, deserving and determined students.
