Holy Child School of Davao: ‘Education with a heart’

The once purposive dream that envisioned an institution that will transcend from molding individuals in the precepts of Godly ideals and principles to an empowered professional is a byline that streamlines the basic fundamentals of what brought about Holy Child School of Davao-College Department.
An individual’s right to be educated is utmost in the order of priority among Filipino families. But education should be wholistic – it does not stop in completing the course requirements to be gain ample knowledge in their field of expertise, but it must be coupled with the essential traits, attitude and perseverance enough to pull through amid the immense challenges of life in the real world.  Proficiency and professionalism is a good formula that embodies good quality education.
When the college director, Pol Allan Diel Leuterio, fondly called by colleagues and students “Sir Pugsy,” was asked to describe the school in one phrase, he replied, “It is EDUCATION WITH A HEART.” He articulated the institution’s major thrust, which is a genuine concern for the welfare of every student. It is not only limited to teaching educational principles but expands to teaching God’s love to everyone in order for an individual to achieve his highest potential.
An attractive rate, quality education, extensive training and exposure, enhanced skills and technical know-how are success indicators that any stakeholder: be it the parent or student would look for.
Sir Pugsy emphasized that the school offers the most reasonable tuition fee compared to other colleges and universities.
With a reasonable tuition fee rate of P200 per unit, one can study at Holy Child School of Davao. Course programs offered are the four-year degree course in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Elementary Education (major in Generalist, Early Childhood Care or Pre-school, Special Education), Secondary Education (major in English) and Business Administration major in Marketing Management and Teacher Certificate Program. Two-year diploma courses offered are: Information Technology, Office Skills and Management, Computer Hardware Servicing NC II and Computer Programming NC IV.
Students who enroll in the Nursing program are charged P350 per unit.
According to Engr. Chrystella Suzette I. Velasco, ITE dean and academic head, Information Technology, Computer Science and Information Systems students have been exposed to competitions like the Mindanao ICT Quiz Contest. Adding a laurel to Holy Child and the ITE department is the passing of one of its graduates in the April 2009 National Computer Certification Examination where only two (2) out of eighty (80) national examinees passed.
The demand for short term diploma courses, like Computer Hardware Servicing NC II and Computer Programming NC IV, paves the way to employment opportunities abroad.
Meantime, Business Administration and Education courses are not to be left out as it continually becomes a feeder school for professionals in the business sector and the academe.
The school is gearing up for a series of changes aligned with requirements as mandated by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Technical Skills and Development Authority (TESDA). In the next few years, the college aims at being given accreditation.
The Holy Child School of Davao-College Department continues to expand its services to the community. With its foundation strongly anchored in the good soil of righteousness and faith in the Almighty, the institution will increasingly become a beacon light with its sterling performance in serving God, people and country.
