Scotty Sheffler is the 2024 Augusta Masters Golf champion, becoming the fifth no. 1 ranked player in the world to wear the green jacket on his reign as World’s Number one.
He joined the company of great champions like Ian Woosnam, Freddie Couples, Tiger Woods and Dustin Johnson.
This is Sheffler’s second green jacket after his triumph in 2022.
But the fight is close. That is until they reach the bend, the back nine. The front nine battle is interesting on this Sunday Final round as his rivals started hot on early birdies and Scotty can afford only pars. But as the sun rises and the contenders moved to the Tenth Tee it is evident that the pressure have increased and it’s only a matter of time that the ones that don’t have the steel nerves will eventually cave in.
The Augusta finals starts on the Back nine.
First to crack was his partner Colin Morikawa who blinked with a double bogey on the 10th and kissed his bid goodbye, the same thing that happen to the chasing Swede who also made the same score thereby stopping his assault.
One by one Scotty’s rivals wilt down under pressure with Ludwig the Swede is the only one remaining standing and appearing as the only “Aberg”sary threatening Scotty.
The emotionless face of Scotty remained focus despite the costly bogey on the 10th hole after missing his par putt.
From the 11th hole onwards one by one the pretenders succumb to the pressure and after Scotty holed out his birdie on the 16th it became evident that only the OB Gyne of Meredith can stop Scottie from finishing the game. Sheffler made a statement earlier just before the Augusta that he would leave the tournament the moment that his wife starts her birth labor. Meredith is due for delivery anytime during the Masters week.
Luckily none of my fears materialized. Scotty calmly sank his final putt for par at the 18th without the call but instead under the thunderous roar that erupted after he made his last putt. The crowd celebrated the triumph of the king. Hail to Scotty, the Masters Shef.
Scotty Shefler’s triumph at the Masters cemented further his claim as the best golfer in the world. Winning 3 of the last four tournaments he has participated in is a rare feat. This Masters triumph however is a bit shallow with the absence of Meredith by his side.
“She’s obviously my biggest supporter, and I definitely miss having her here” says Scotty of his wife. He won the Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Players at TPC Sawgrass considered as the fifth major and now, the Augusta Masters. The only blemish for that rare feat is his runner up finish in the Houston Open ; missing the birdie putt on the last hole of the regulation, the tying putt for playoff by a millimeter.
What’s next Scotty?
You better fly immediately back to Dallas to welcome the newest member of the family. Make it grand Scotty, of course by wearing your green jacket as you proudly lift and embrace your new baby.
