JUST TEES: The family that golfs together stays together

The rhythmic thwack of the golf club, the satisfying plink of the ball dropping into the cup – these sounds have been the soundtrack to our family life for over two decades. It all began in the year 2000, a time when my eldest daughter, Ayra, was a mere six-year-old sprite. My youngest, Claire, was just a newborn, a tiny bundle of joy nestled in my arms as I stepped onto the green for the first time. Little did I know then that this seemingly solitary pursuit would blossom into a cherished family tradition.

Twenty-five years later, the roles have reversed. Ayra, now a successful lawyer, and Claire, a vibrant young woman (eyeing a law career too in the future) have both embraced the game. They’ve both taken lessons, honed their swings, and recently experienced the thrill of their first fairway game. While their skills are still developing – and believe me, there are plenty of moments of laughter and frustration on the course – watching them navigate the greens fills my heart with an overwhelming sense of joy.

Ayra, the taller of the two, possesses a powerful drive. She’s a strong hitter, capable of sending the ball soaring across the fairway. Claire, though petite, has a natural grace and precision to her swing. It’s uncanny, really. She has the fluidity and power reminiscent of Nelly Korda, a subtle elegance in her movements that belies her strength. I’ve spent countless hours with them at the driving range, witnessing their dedication and progress. They are both incredibly promising golfers, each with their unique style and strengths.

More than just a game, golf has become a powerful bond between us. It’s a shared experience, filled with friendly competition, shared laughter, and those quiet moments of connection amidst the rolling hills and verdant fairways. The challenges of the course have taught them resilience, patience, and the importance of teamwork. And for me, there’s nothing more rewarding than sharing this passion with my daughters. The saying rings true: a family that golfs together, stays together. And our family, bound by the shared love of this beautiful game, will undoubtedly continue to create memories on the course for many years to come.
