My last-minute entry into the PAL Interclub Golf Tournament (Seniors Division) in Bacolod just recently proved to be an unforgettable experience.
Filling in for an ill teammate, I joined the Rancho Palos Verdes team, a predominantly Davao Eaglemasters group captained by Randy Cadiogan and including Abe Dizon, Boy Pude, Jun Serado, Boy Arriba, Tony Batao, and Joseph Ng.
As a TFF (Forefathers) member, I was the team’s sole representative from my club, with other TFF golfers scattered among other teams like Apo, FTB, and DCGC.
My first round at Marapara, a course unfamiliar to me after a ten-year absence, was a struggle. A caddy from Davao, unfamiliar with the course compounded my difficulties, leading to a disappointing performance, laced with three pick-ups. The challenging terrain and numerous “jabongs” (water hazards) proved particularly daunting.
Determined to redeem myself in the second round at Binitin, I unfortunately started with an out-of-bounds tee shot, threatening a repeat of my earlier woes. However, my caddy, Dondon—a skilled golfer with a 6 handicap—provided invaluable guidance, leading me to a strong recovery and a two-under-net finish.
While my overall score wasn’t stellar, I finished in the upper half of the field of 241 players. Although our team placed 14th (out of 31), our effort was unwavering. This tournament highlighted areas for improvement in my game, especially maintaining composure after missed shots.
Beyond the scores, the tournament’s true value lay in the camaraderie, laughter, and shared moments with friends. It was a truly memorable experience.
Until next tour (in Davao?)… Thanks team Rancho Palos Verdes…Thanks PAL.
