Clean Slate – Amateur boxers to Cuba; Baseball players to Japan

AMATEUR Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) executive director Ed Picson informed Edge Davao that our national amateur boxing team left for Cuba on August 7 to train in preparation for the World Championship in Milan in September and the SEA Games in Laos in December.
The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) under chairman Harry Angping is sponsoring the airfare while ABAP chairman Manny V. Pangilinan and the PLDT Smart Foundation are shouldering the other expenses of the team.
Rey Saludar and Charlie Suarez of the Barangay Una Boxing Team-Panabo City are part of the national team and will be wearing the national colors to the two international tournaments.

It’s going to be a very busy week for Davao delegates to the Baseball Study Tour in Japan, starting off with a two-day study tour of the 91st National High School baseball tournament.
Davao City Baseball Association officials led by president Joaquin “Boy” Sarabia, chief umpire Ruben Mendoza, coach Ariel Isabado and Ines Mallari will meet with the sponsoring Tokyo Kichijoji Lions Club officials, Datu Uchida Development Foundation executives Tatsuo and Yusuke Uchida and coach Hidetoshi Suzuki on Monday evening after observing baseball games at the Tokyo Dome.
By Tuesday, the delegates will attend the 3rd Japan National Junior High School League and proceed to the Jingu field for the Yakult vs. Yokohama (professionals) game.
On Wednesday and Thursday, they will observe the training by coach Suzuki starting at 5 a.m.
The Davao team will return home on Friday morning from Narita to Manila and Manila to Davao in the afternoon.

Watch football games on August 22, 29 and 30 at the Tionko field of Agro College.
According to Davao Football Association secretary-general Erwin Protacio, teams from Davao del Sur, Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro, Digos City, Cotabato City and Panabo City are coming to play.
“On August 22, the categories to be played are the Boys 14 & Under (born 1995 & later); Boys 12 & Under (born 1997 & later); and, Boys / Girls 8 & Under (born 2001 & later). On the 29th, the events are Boys 10 & Under (born 1999 & later); Girls 10 & Under (born 1999 and later); Boys 16 & Under (born 1993 & later); and, Girls Elementary division. On the 30th it will be the Men’s Open (1st, 2nd, and 35 Above) and Ladies Open. The 35 Above group in the Men’s Open will start at 1 p.m.,” said coach Erwin.

Sunday Bowlers Club’s Joe Torres, Emie Orteza and Nonoy Baluyot are chipping in for the five-game Mindanao Friendship Games bowling tournament on August 15 at the Fairlanes.
Twenty teams from Gen.Santos, Cotabato, Maguindanao, Tagum, Kidapawan, Davao  and possibly from Iligan are competing.
