Golfer of the Week – Kenji Shimizu

KENJI Shimizu rarely played golf as a mere employee, but when he became president of  Culture Creation Ltd., he found more time for the sport.
Playing golf, he said, is a very good exercise, a very good break from a hectic schedule in the company and other activities.
The chairman of International Activity Committee of the Tokyo Kichijoji Lions Club said a round of golf, though, is very expensive in Tokyo and that is why he enjoyed playing in the Philippines, whenever he had the chance to travel, particularly to Davao, because of the lower cost.
“I did not have a good round, though, at the time,” said Shimizu, recalling his game at the Rancho Palos Golf and Country Club.
Shimizu is quite a fan of Bukidnon’s pride, Frankie Minoza, who stayed long in the Japan golf circuit.
He said that Japan has been producing quite a good number of professional golfers seeing action in the professional tour, adding that learning the sport to become a professional has a big tag price.
“It’s very expensive to go to a golf school,” said the Lions Club official, who oversees the rounding up of supporters for the Davao City Baseball Cup which is entering its fifth year in February 2009.
The Tokyo Kichijoji Lions Club, he said, will continue to support baseball in Davao City for this has benefitted elementary and high school students.
“We look forward to visiting Davao City again and seeing all the baseball players in action,” he said. [MPB]
