Golfer of The Week – Dennis Uy

Dennis Uy, or Dondon, is one of the active members of the Metro Davao Sports Association (Medsa) that holds the yearly Mayor’s Cup golf tournament organized to raise funds for the various charitable organizations and to build homes under the Gawad Kalinga Program.
The hunky and handsome Dondon is very much into sports. He plays basketball and golf.
But his busy schedule limits him to playing only twice a month. The president and chief executive officer of Davao City-based Phoenix Petroleum Philippines wants to emerge as the No.1 in retail petroleum.
After four years, Phoenix now has 120 stations and ready to battle it out with the giants. The Phoenix business is his main focus now and that means, only getting a chance to play golf for once or even twice a month.
Phoenix’s growth is not a surprise for they offer their dealers the best scheme in putting up a gas station. “Less capital, better margins, easy transactions,” he said on how to attract businessmen to venture into the petroleum business.
Dondon said the pricing strategy matching the situations of the area is another plus that led to the growth of the company which is now ranked No.242 in the Top 10,000 Corporations in the country.
Their Davao depot has a capacity of 14 million liters, the Batangas depot can stock 50 million liters. The Zamboanga depot is still under construction, a move that is seen to create more business activity in Western Mindanao.
They target to build 30 to 50 stations and 2 to 3 depots a year, showing the aggressiveness, synonymous to the work ethic of the young company president.
While focused on his main business, Dondon said they intend to be in the Philippine Basketball League soon, aside from continuing to support the PBA as backer of the PBA on Tour.
Dondon also wants to institutionalize the Phoenix Open Golf Tournament that raises funds for charity.
Well, who can stop Dondon? He zooms like the legendary Phoenix.  [Moses P. Billacura]
