Golfer of the Week – Rey Yumang

Rey Yumang, in case you didn’t know, is the same guy who established the popular Visa Videoke and Buhda Restaurant. “Now you know!” as Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao says it in one of his commercials.
There’s something else you ought to know about Rey. He also put up the Idol Grill, which has become a popular hangout for Dabawenyos, mainly the younger ones, along Torres Street.
The lively bands playing every night provide a festive atmosphere, a reflection of Rey’s happy-go-lucky character. Food and drinks are priced reasonably. No wonder Dabawenyos troop to Idol Grill, especially on Friday and Saturday nights, to round up the weekend.
Rey oversees the operation, checks on his staff and welcomes friends who come to dine at the place.
And like many businessmen in Davao City, Rey is also into sports. He plays into tennis at the Ecoland IV Tennis Club and swings a golf club at the Apo Golf and Country Club, Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club or at the Davao City Golf Club.
Rey has the same motivation as other businessmen who are into sports. Tennis and golf help to keep him physically fit. He needs to be fit because he has a business to manage.
And the best way to avoid getting sick is to regularly exercise, have a balanced diet and sufficient sleep.
Grill is open every night and is one of the busiest restaurants along Torres Street, one reason why he is into sports — to keep himself in top shape.
Playing golf is not merely a way of establishing rapport with other businessmen, but to enjoy what nature can offer best. Hitting balls, walking for two or more hours up and down a rolling golf course, shaking hands with friends, talking to them are treasured moments to Rey, who is also called Idol in reference to his new resto.
Rey also maintains the Idol Grill Golf Team which, once team competitions are organized, is always ready for action. One player that they are backing is a teenager named CJ Casintahan.
While they enjoy playing golf or doing business, Rey also looks forward to seeing the young CJ flourish as a top golfer in Davao City. No wonder, he is called Idol.  [Moses P. Billacura]
