Brgy. Una Boxing Program’s best product, Charlie Suarez of Panabo City, knocked out Cambodian Phal Sophat in the second round in the 57-kilogram boxing event of the 25th Southeast Asian Games, December 16, in Laos.
The Philippine boxing team won a total of five gold, one silver and three bronze medals.
The pride of Panabo thanked Tony Boy Floirendo, former Davao del Norte congressman and Brgy. Una Boxing Program’s founder, for his support.
“I am happy that his efforts to help amateur boxing finally bore fruit,” said Gene Rose Tecson, Brgy. Una Boxing Program executive director.
Suarez’s victory has inspired the Panabo fighters and other Mindanao amateur boxers to continue training in the hope that one day they will also follow in Suarez’ footsteps.
A gold medal victory in the SEA Games is equivalent to P300,000. [Moses P. Billacura]
