Davao Horse Club marks 14th year

In simple, private ceremonies at the Marina Park Stables, its home for many years, the Davao Horse Club marked its 14th year of active promotion of horse sport last Friday, January 15. The occasion served as the venue for the induction of officers and turn-over ceremonies of the one and only club in the region for horse enthusiasts.
Leading the new set of officers is lawyer Jeric C. Olaguer who, having been elected as president when the DHC was founded in 1997, is in his second stint to serve as Chief Horseman. In intimate but fun-filled proceedings spiced up by real cowboys and cowgirls dressed in authentic western attire from head gear to high boots, almost the entire active membership took their oath of office either as officer or member of the 2010 Board. Now composed of second generation riders as well, children of original members, the Davao Horse Club is a closely-knit congregation of entire families who love horses and who find fulfillment and happiness riding the beautiful animal together.
The Club pioneered in the sport in Mindanao and has established a niche in the Philippine horse industry, having participated in horse shows and competitions from as near as Bukidnon and Cagayan de Oro City in Mindanao, to Cebu, Tacloban and Ormoc in the Visayas and the Manila Polo Club and Clark Development Zone as guests and first visiting horsemen from outside Luzon. It is a founding and leading member of the Philippine Horsemen’s Federation that conducts an annual competition circuit. The other officers for 2010 are: Andrew Y. Tan, vice president; James M. Velasco, secretary; Benedicto C. Lim, Jr., treasurer; George Walter M. Misa, PRO; Tito Sorongon, project chairman; Francis R. Ledesma, Danny Barlis, Vic Noble and PJ Lautenco, chairmen, Ways & Means; Dr. Dean Gonzales, chairman, Trail Rides and Other Events; Nonoy Aznar and Koby Troy Tan, chairmen for Competitions.
The directors are: Sally Santiago-Lim, Pete Batu, Jerry Tuason, Albert Angel and Bodo Spieller. Madam Melody Batu-Gonzales, an officer at the Immigration Office and a horsewoman herself, administered the oath of office.
