Golfer of the Week – Alemar Etrone

Alemar Etrone is this year’s team captain of the Apo Golf and Country Club in the regular event of the 63rd PAL Interclub Golf Tournament on February 24 to 27 in Bacolod City.
The former Bureau of Immigration officer based in Davao City will have his hands full when they face tough opponents in the longest-running golf championships for amateurs.
But handling a team or an organization is not strange for Etrone.
The team captain runs a successful mango business and picking the best variety to be planted in the same way he picks the best line-up available for the Apo Club.
Toffee Tionko, Peter Pineda, Ludwig Ledesma, Leo Fusilero, Vincent Gumapac, Jun Horfilla, Quintin Singson, Tebor Marcelino and Mark Oropeza have been honing their skills in preparation for the golfest that will be played at two courses, the Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club and Bacolod Golf and Country Club.
The Apo golfers are regular competitors in the PAL golfest, including the 2008 edition, and familiarity with the playing field will no longer be a problem for them as they share notes on how to approach every hole of the two courses.
Etrone is not a stranger to winning for he has this attitude to always strive to be the best. In golf, consistency is difficult, but with weeks of preparation, the team captain is optimistic they will be competitive in Bacolod.
The Apo golfers left for Bacolod ready and hoping that the Club will produce the likes of fine golfers Felix Casas, Elmer Salvador, Chihiro Ikeda, among others, and also shine and “Swing High in Bacolod”.  [Moses P. Billacura]
