Araw 19 sports events in full swing: Bong Go

No less than 19 sports events highlight the 73rd Araw ng Dabaw celebration, the City Sports Development Division announced.
Bong Go, head of the Araw ng Dabaw sports committee and executive assistant to the Mayor, said action goes full swing in all 19 events at various venues around the city. The events will be held under the supervision of the SDD in coordination with the respective sports associations.
The events on top are athletics, basketball, billiards, bodybuilding, bowling, boxing, chess, cycling, dama, football, judo, karatedo, lawn tennis, sepak takraw, table tennis, taekwondo, triathlon and softball. The sports activities also include the ongoing Davao City Hall Employees Association (DACHEA) sportsfest.
“As has been the tradition, sports will be among the highlights of our celebration. It will be a showcase of Davao’s finest talents in the different sports disciplines,” said Go.
The Mayor Rody-Vice Mayor Inday Sara Invitational basketball tournament banner this year’s events. Four teams from Laguna, Gen. Santos, Cebu and Davao will vie for the title in the tournament at the Davao City Recreation Center (formerly Almendras gym). Games are played until March 16, Tuesday. 
Athletics has started March 13-14 at UM Matina, billiards last March 9-13 at JL Billiard Hall, bodybuilding last March 14 at Victoria Plaza, bowling at Dover Lanes, boxing on March 15-16 at the City Hall Drive, chess last March 13 and continued on March 21 at JS Gaisano, cycling last March 14, dama last March 12-14 at the Osmena Park, dancesport at Elysees, football at Tionko field, judo on March 20 at HCDC Gym, karatedo on March 20-21 at NCCC, lawn tennis started last March 13 and will be played until March 16, sepak takraw last March 13-14 at City Hall Drive, table tennis on March 20-21 at Wheels and More, taekwondo on March 28 at SM City Davao, triathlon last March 14 at Queensland Baywalk, and softball started last March 14 and games will resume for three more weekends at UM Matina.
The sportsfest is part of the year-round program of the city government under Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Vice Mayor Inday Sara Duterte.
