Golfer of the Week – Marvin Dumandan

One of the professional golfers being watched in the Asian Tour and the ICTSI Philippine Tour is from Davao City.
Marvin Dumandan, who won one of the ICTSI legs, is a homegrown Apo Golf and Country Club product who became one of the country’s amateur standouts.
Just like any other Davao golfer, Dumandan suited up for the ICTSI-The Country Club as one of their mainstays before turning professional.
He is glad that International Container Terminal Services Inc. chairman and CEO Ricky Razon has not wavered in supporting him and other professional golfers competing in the Asian Tour.
Without the support of the port magnate, things would have been different for Marvin, who even finished No.3 in the Order of Merit, and other Filipino pros.
The airline tickets, hotel accommodations, golf equipment, allowances are part of the logistics needed by a touring professional.
“Mao nay swerte kung ma adto ka sa ICTSI. Kay maski dili kaayo mo daug, duna kay sapi para sa imong pamilya sa Davao,” said hs fellow Dabawenyo, Felix Cassius Casas.
Casas said they have recruited many Dabawenyos to the ICTSI fold because they know that it would be the best thing for them.
Marvin is ony one of the lucky pros who made it to the team because of his talent and dedication to the sport.
“Wala na mi lain padulungan. Kinabuhi namo golf, so tarongon gyud namo na,” said Casas, who became the most successful professional from Davao City.
If Marvin, Casas said, continues his determination to become the country’s finest golfer and keeps his feet on the groud, he will go nowhere else but up.
“Mo asenso gyud na,” he added.
Casas recalled that many of Apo’s talented golfers came from very humble beginnings just like Marvin.”Basta kanunay ka humble, ipa taas ka kadugayan,” he added.
