Ramon Tam Jr. established the South Ventures Distributing Company 18 years ago in Davao ity to deliver various consumer products to key cities and provinces of the region. He eventually set up Ryan’s Trucking Co.
He took up golf only in 2000 when everything was already in place in the business.
“Business first, before pleasure,” he said.
So, when things started to go smoothly in business, Ramon began to go with friends for a round of golf.
He took up golf lessons at the Golf Master’s Driving Range in Maa and played his first regular round at the Apo Golf and Country Club.
“Mahirap pero I did not stop tuning my game,” he said.
No wonder, when the Apo Club officials looked around for outstanding players for the PAL Interclub Golf Tournament, Tam was among those picked as a rookie.
“I was happy because they were able to acknowledge that I could play a good game,” he said.
Tam helped the Apo Club win the Sportswriter’s Division title in Bacolod.
“It was fun,” said Tam with a big smile.
The Businessmen, Lawyers, Doctors Golfers (BULDOG) group is just one of the groups he is a member of and they hold tournaments to raise funds that will be spent for community work.
“It is really good to be involved in such activities,” he added.
All of his kids are married and manage their own businesses, too, so Ramon has nothing to worry about these days except to keep improving on his game and getting more involved in civic actions. [MOSES P. BILLACURA]
