Dr. Manuel Garcia Jr. and Santiago Aquino combined for 86 points to win the over-all net title of the 22nd Guillermo E. Torres Sr. Memorial Open Golf Tournament organized to benefit the scholars of an agricultural college, June 13, at the Apo Golf and Country Club.
Garcia scored 41 points and Aquino added 45 for them to emerge champions while Peter Pineda and Den de Castro shared the top honors by taking the over-all gross crown with 55 points.
Lawyer Larry Pasquil, who changed his swing recently, saw the improvement when he bagged the class A gross title with 31 points, just one point better than runner-up Leo Fusilero. Mark S. Oropeza of Oro Watches and Jewelry sizzled with 38 points for the net crown to share the limelight while Demy Monedero settled for the runner-up honors.
Bong Cabang won via countback against Dennis Capa after both scored 28 points for the class B gross crown while Bobby Aceron ruled the net class with a 43, one point victory against Johnson Ng.
In class C, Rodrigo Rizon’s 23 was just enough to win against runner-up Richard Sacay for the gross crown while Fred Baluran posted a three-point victory against Oben Canilao, 48 to 45, for the net title.
Torres handed over the P294,900 total from the entry fees to Angelita Calaog, who represented the Mt.Apo Science College Foundation, an institution established by the late Guillermo Sr. for poor but deserving students.
