Clean Slate – AIA, Kadayawan Golf Cup

by Moses Billacura

Work has started for the Athletes in Action (AIA) Davao Sports Movement to build “spiritually mature athletic influencers”.
AIA has tapped Pastor Jose “Totie” Andes in Manila and coach Rael Diaz in Davao to help in setting up spiritual movements through sports.
Rev.Jim Leffew, who partnered with Pastor Sam Pascual in the Grace Baptist Baskeball Camps organized in Davao years ago, is re-establishing his connections in Davao for this sports ministry.
To start with the sports ministry, AIA will be bringing Craig Schinck, a certified strength and conditioning specialist and author of two articles for the NSCA Journal titled “Preparing a Basketball Player for NBA Camp” and “Concepts for Baseball Conditioning”, to conduct a seminar for interested participants.
He is the founder of the International Performance Sciences and taught strength and conditioning training in India, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Spain, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Guatamela, Poland, Sri Lanka.
He is an NSCA Nebraska state director and Midwest regional director and has established the AIA Sports Performance in 1997.
AIA, since 1966, has shared “Victory Beyond Competition”, that is to find a relationship with Jesus Christ as for the community to look up to athletes as heroes who also look up to God.
AIA Davao Sports Movement is inviting athletes, coaches, P.E.teachers to attend the seminar on August 9 to 10 and listen to interesting topics like “Systematic Approach to Plyometric Training”, “Agility Progressions and Quick Foot Work”, “Dynamic Warm-up”, “Sports Performance Nutrition”, “Weight Training Progressions”, “Lower Body Training”, “Speed Training”, “Core Conditioning”, “Energy System Development” and “Myths of Strength Training”.

Another exciting event coming up is the Kadayawan Golf Cup on August 7 and 8 at the Apo Golf and Country Club.
The Rotary Club of Matina Davao and Rotary Club of South Davao officials have tied up with executives to conduct community projects after the tournament because they have allocated funds from the registration fees to reach to their identified beneficiaries.
U.S.-trained and certified coach Chris Guerrero will also be in Davao for a free golf lesson, a bonus if you participate in the tournament.
