Golfer of the Week – Joey Mempin

Joey Mempin is one of the Gawad Kalinga coordinators who have established a link with the Metro Davao Sportsmen Association (MEDSA) that led to the holding of golf tournaments with a noble cause.
The MEDSA-GK-Mayor’s Cup tournaments resulted to the establishment of a GK Village in Barangay Tibungco and the work has paved the way for the “poorest of the poor” to finally have a home of their own.
MEDSA, an organization of concerned businessmen and sportsmen led by Eduardo A. Bangayan, has been conducting tournaments that benefitted various organizations like the Our Lady of Victory and Davao Boys Town, but when the Gawad Kalinga came in, the businessmen-sportsmen became more excited than ever.
The building of homes and to see them having a safe place to live turned out to be more heart-warming and more fulfilling for them.
Joey easily connected with the MEDSA officers being a golfer himself.
MEDSA officers fully believed in GK’s noble work of building communities to end poverty and from that belief, the GK-MEDSA partnership found a strong supporter from the annual Mayor’s Cup Golf Tournament.
After the serious matters are discussed, like the funds needed to build another home for the homeless, Joey picks up golf again to get the needed break.
But work is not yet finished for Joey and GK.
And the MEDSA has not wavered, too, in building a better community in the City of Davao.  [Moses P. Billacura]
