The Davao City Tchoukball Association in cooperation with the vice mayor’s office will hold the first Davao Tchoukball-RRD Cup on October 29 to 31 at the Davao City Recreation Center and Holy Child School of Davao-Jacinto Campus.
Fifteen teams are expected to participate in the men’s open, women’s open, boys under 18, girls under 18, boys under 12 and girls under 12.
Tchoukball was invented by Dr. Hermann Brandt during the sixties in Geneva, Switzerland. It is rapidly gaining ground in Europe, Latin America, North America, Africa & Asia. The Philippines introduced and promoted the sport of Tchoukball last April.
Coach Bliar T. Cuares, PTF vice-president for Mindanao, said that “we are very excited to hold our First Davao City Tchoukball Championship this coming October. We appreciate the support extended to us by the Davao City vice-mayor’s office in helping us promote the sport in the city.”
Winners in this tournament will receive trophies and medals. They will also have the chance to participate in the First Philippine Open Tchoukball Championships which will be held in Davao City on January 28-30, 2011.
Powerhouse Chinese Taipei, current world champions and Singapore, silver medalist in the recent Asia Pacific Tchoukball Championships held in Singapore last July will send their national teams to participate in this event. The Bacolod City Tchoukball Association will also send their Men’s team and their Boys Under 18 that represented the country during the 4th APTC in Singapore last July.
