The Thank God It’s Saturday (T.G.I.S.) golf team members meet every Saturday just to keep in touch and enjoy a round of golf.
As long as they had previously agreed on the venue, by early Saturday morning you will find these guys either at the Apo Golf and Country Club, Davao City Golf Club or Rancho Palos Golf and Country Club.
Most of the members are businessmen whose companies are either owned by their families, like Cortess Printing Press, small firms they themselves had established, like Alimar Etrone Farms, or are gainfully employed in some corporations.
One of their members is Danny Nagayo, general manager of the Nordstrom Marketing Company, an importer of automation, electrical, industrial and mechanical parts needed by beverage, tuna and pineapple companies.
Good thing about members of the golfing community, a number of them are engaged in various business ventures that require Nagayo’s expertise.
To Danny, golf and business mix very well and, usually, when a deal is made it means the beginning of a lasting friendship.
Five days a week are regular working days for Danny and, depending on the workload, even six times a week.
But the good thing about it all is that a Saturday is always a good day to play a round of golf—weather permitting, of course. No wonder Danny looks forward to the coming of the next Saturday. [MOSES P. BILLACURA]
