Davao City’s baseball and softball teams are ready for action in the Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) regional meet on January 21 to 23 at the University of Mindanao-Matina campus.
Assistant coach Ryan Sarabia said the regional champion will represent the Davao eegion to the national championships next month. Tacloban, Cebu and Bacolod are ready to host the national championships but there is also a possibility that eventually Manila will play host again this year.
The University of Mindanao hitters are favored to top the regionals against Digos and Tagum, squads that have been working hard to snatch the title away from them.
“They have been training well too,” said Sarabia.
He said two of national player Edmer del Socorro’s brothers are in the line-up, Earl Ryan and Mark Joseph, who will provide the firepower from the mound. Backing them are Charles Kevin Ambulo, Aljon Borromeo, Philip Vincent Cane, Jose John Cortez, Rodrigo Garcia, Roy Vic Gelvero, Howell Jera Jr., Mark Philip Malayao, Emmanuel Qubing, Robert Sabada, Jamil Segundo, Jose Franco Serra and Genesis Sitcharon.
The women’s softball squad will be banking on the services of Nina Cristine Antonio, Carla Vince Busalla, Sheilla Caindog, Flora May Castro, Lovely Grace Lim, Kris Jean Mabayao, Mirasol Molde, Joylyn Nergua, Lydia Rosales, Analou Vanzuela and Merry Cris Yuzon.
“They are also ready,” he said. [Moses P. Billacura]
