The world’s new No. 2

Some golf commentators had been debating whether former world number 1 Tiger Woods of the U.S. can stage a big comeback in late 2010. And early this year, they are still talking about his big comeback.
But just last week German Martin Kaymer moved up to the No.2 spot and dislodged Woods.
Kaymer’s ninth victory in his career and three of his four years in Abu Dhabi just did that.
Aside from taking a handsome $455,000, the shiny falcon trophy, the big talk was the way he won the tournament by eight shots and replacing Woods as the world’s number two player in the official World Golf Rankings. It was already a big talk when Lee Westwood of England emerged as the world’s number 1 player and it was even louder this time when the German overtook Woods in the rankings.
Kaymer played comfortably in Abu Dhabi which he considers a “perfect” golf course. “I always play here and enjoy coming to Abu Dhabi,” he said over Golf Channel.
Filipino golfers and fanatics have seen another German on the rise after Bernhard Langer who became No.1 in 1986.
Commentators over Golf Channel have predicted that the native of Düsseldorf is on his way to winning four more major tournaments this year, although, one said that he is still banking on Woods, considered as the best golfer in the world, to recover this year and get back to the top spot.
It’s still too early to tell, though, but the way Kaymer does things these days appropriately describes his string of victories as purely “German Engineering”.  [MPB with Golf Channel reports]
