Singapore relied on its vast experience to beat RP-Davao, 37-31, in the finals of the 2nd Southeast Asian Open Tchoukball Championships in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.
Team manager Danny Vergara said the Dabawenyos won against Cambodia and host Vietnam but lost the opportunity to bag the champion’s trophy when they bowed to the Singaporeans.
“This was a tune-up game for us as we prepare for the World Tchoukball Championships this coming August in Ferrara, Italy,” he said.
The RP-Davao team which competed in Vietnam on April 2 to 4, arrived home last April 6 and will pay a courtesy call on Davao City mayor Sara Duterte to present their first runner-up trophy.
Philippine Tchoukball Federation president Pastor Gary Visitacion said the federation is happy with the result. “I am really very proud of the team,” he said. [MPB]
