i.Flex Fitness Gym, together with MAT Bodybuilding Competitions, a Davao-based contest started by Marco Antonio H. Tamayo in 2003, will stage the “Ginoong Kadayawan 2011” bodybuilding competition sometime in September this year in time for the weeklong “Kadayawan sa Dabaw 2011” festival.
Kadayawan is one of the four major festivals in Davao City, along with the Araw ng Dabaw in March, Paskuhan in December and the summerfest currently running.
Tamayo, a bodybuilding champion himself, said the competition aims to “showcase the interlacing pride and wonders of Davao and Mindanao, especially Dabawenyo body form as gift from mother nature.” Waxing poetic, Tamayo said the tilt is also “a fitting celebration of life, a thanksgiving for the gifts of nature, the wealth of culture, the bounties of harvest and serenity of living in Davao.”
He said this early a number of bodybuilders from other countries have already signified their intention to join the contest and their interest in visiting Davao City, about which they have heard a lot of interesting stories.
Tamayo said the winner/s of the competition will officially represent the city in the annual FAME World Championships to be held in Manila and will be invited to compete in the IBFA (International Bodybuilding and Fitness Association) Mr. World competition to be held in Rome, Italy.
This annual search for Ginoong Kadayawan will be highlighted by a parade of title holders from previous bodybuilding competitions nationally, the standard mandatory poses and a fashion etniko where the competitors will be wearing attires inspired by the Kadayawan in cooperation with one of Davao’s creative designer. It promises to be a grand show of the Body form enhanced by the theme of the celebration. And a showcase of Professional Photographers photo shoot from each competitor will be on display.
“This year will be a bigger event because we will be adding another category that would help boost confidence in our fellow Dabawenyos,” he said.
The new category – the Davao model championship this August, will initially be only for lady competitors, although much later male candidates will also be allowed to participate.
The title of this year’s event will be “The Best Bodies of Davao” and having the categories of GK 2011, the Battle Continues and Davao Model Championships. The venue will be the NCCC MALL of Davao tentatively set for Aug.13 or 14. The date will be confirmed after June 30, 2011.
