Providing inspiration for other Asian golfers these days is newly-crowned Players Championship winner K.J. (Kyung-Ju) Choi of South Korea.
Pocketing $1,710,000 last May 15 for winning the TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, KJ pledged to donate $200,000 to tornado victims in the U.S. through his KJ Choi Foundation.
This has not come as a surprise.
KJ is known for his philanthropic work in Korea where his foundation helps the Scholar Business Youth Center, Korean Development Fund for Golf, Dream Golfers Support and North Korea Support, among others.
Choi, who took up golf as his new sport after one of his high school teachers told him to try it, hopes to provide a happy future for all children and for the young people to realize their dreams and aspirations by providing them with welfare services and professional help.
The foundation has also given aid to various organizations in Malaysia, Haiti, Kansas, Sichuan and Texas.
He is organizing a K.J. Choi Invitational in October in his home country as another way of giving back to the community.
