Columbia Computer Center Football Club’s Edward Lam took over as the new president of the Davao Football Association, replacing Medvil Farms FC’s Rafael Vilela who resigned.
Lam will be serving as president for the next six months when a regular election will be held.
The Columbia Computer Center top honcho is known as member of the “Davao Football Triad” composed of the late Jose Te Sr., the revered coach, and Victorio Sai, the long-serving president, who in their times brought football in Davao to its highest level from scratch.
Lam was key to the “Triad” as chief finance officer while Te studied football plays during his break from work and implemented them for training. Sai did the administrative work and linked with the Philippine Football Federation.
The “Triad” members were all products of the Boys Football Association (BOFA) of the old Davao Chinese School.
It was during their partnership that DFA produced the most number of national players, Dabawenyos enlisted in the AFP, and the most number of national titles won that Davao became one of the respected teams in the country.
The “Triad”, a named concocted by former national football player lawyer Guillermo Iroy Jr., conducted regular tournaments without government funding for many years but with the help of Philippine Football Federation (PFF) president lawyer Rene Adad and the late secretary general Chris Monfort, Mindanao-wide competitions were played in Davao that gave local players the needed exposure, thanks mainly to sponsor Coca-Cola Bottlers Philippines.
